About the Area

Welcome to Marilyn Mansfield

The Mendips are renowned as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and abound with interesting places to visit and activities to enjoy. Running east to west from Weston-Super-Mare to Frome the Mendips overlook the stunning Somerset Levels to the south and towards Bristol to the north. Scattered throughout the area are a host of picturesque villages providing the best of rural life.

Popular with walkers, the Mendips are home to a wide range of sports and leisure activities including potholing, caving, climbing, abseiling, gliding and pony trecking. Nearby there is dry skiing at Churchill, fishing on Blagdon and Chew Valley Lakes and there are several quality golf courses in the area.

Places of interest include Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole and the delightful small City of Wells with its regular bi-weekly market in the Cathedral square. Further afield the major cities of Bristol and Bath provide excellent shopping, restaurants and nightlife and the Arts are particularly well catered for with numerous theatres, cinemas, museums and galleries.

Education facilities are first class at all levels in both the state and private sectors. Communications are excellent with the M5 motorway serving all points north and south whilst the M4, just north of Bristol, gives good access to London and South Wales. There is a mainline railway station at Weston super Mare and Yatton providing fast and regular links to London Paddington whilst for the long distance commuter Bristol International Airport offers both national and international flights.
